James Moorcroft (U20) came 4th in both the 400m (with a time of 50.34) and 800m (with a time of 2mins 00.22secs).
In the under 17 mens high jump Justin Lakey finished 5th with a height of 1.80mJanuary 6th saw the 24th running of the popular Woodcote & Goring 10k, with nearly 500 runners taking part.
The tough course starts at the top of the hill in Woodcote, traveling down to the bottom of the valley and then climbing back up again. Previous winners from Newbury include, Pete Wilson in the Early 90s who won the race twice and the Simon Vines winning in 1998, this was followed by Nick Bull in 1999 and 2000, whose time hasn’t been bettered since 1999.
This year Team Kennet had 6 runners in the race, Nick Weston was first home for the club in 34th with a time of 41.32, Bart Kujiten 38th (42.56), newcomer John Marriott was 68th (44.39), Andy Waycock competing in his first race for the club was 122nd (47.37), Roger Davis was 205th (52.14) and finally Colin Price was 231st (53.30).
Sunday 13th January was the Rough 'n' Tumble, a very tough multi terrain race over 10 miles with steep uphill climbs. Mark Shepherd was the clubs highest placed athlete with 5th place in 1hr 11mins and 46secs claiming 3rd senior home, and more success came from Rachael Elliott who was the first lady home in 33rd place in 1.19.51, Colin Price also took part and was 314th in 1.52.04 with just over 500 runners finishing the course.
Rachael Elliott was one of the clubs best runners on the day, as she nearly won the senior womens race out right, just being piped to second place in a high class field, this put her into 1st place overall in the league, she was backed up by Helen Preedy in 10th and Sue Francis in 14th for 2nd team place on the day, but keep the overall 1st team place in Division 1. Amy Dobson was 5th u17 and was 35th overall, with Rose Metalli 57th and Margaret Smith 97th for the B team home in 11th in Division 2.
The under 15/17 boys race saw another excellent team and individual performances, with the a team all home in the top 5, Stephen Tucker claimed an excellent 2nd place to put him 3rd overall in the u17s, Micheal Randall was 4th and won the u15 age group also taking him to the top of his age group in his first year, Tom Milburn was 5th bringing the A team home for a convincing win and taking then also to the top of their league. Aston Nicholls was 15th the other club member.
The senior men also faired up well, with an excellent 3rd team place in Division Two, Mark Shepherd led the yellow vests home in the unlucky 13th place, Nick Weston 71st, Ryan Morris 72nd, Iain Adams 81st, Gavin Maclaughlin 99th, Brynn Stephens 101st and Bart Kujiten 107th saw the A team Home, the second team were 13th in Division Three, Dick Kearn 113th, Dave Mitcham 146th, Mark Pontin 147th, Colin Price 184th and Roger Davis 210th .
The under 11 girls is proving to be successful again for the club as Rhea Walter finished 2nd to put her second overall, and Georgina Bradford 4th having her best run ever, Michaela Adams 7th and Carli Nicholls 42nd. In the under 11 Boys it was two new comers that turned out Tom Uden was an excellent 5th place and Seb Bowden 20th.
Fraser Ashman was the clubs only u13 boy where he came 22nd and in the u13/15 girls race Katie Pontin led the team home in 6th place in 11th, Suzi Cookson 12th and Katie Herbert 31st. the second team saw Amber Whetter 41st, Emma Seymour 49th and Katie Metalli 35th for 15th team.
Team Kennet athletes Mark Shepherd and Rachael Elliott travelled to Peterborough this weekend to
take part in the Great Eastern Run, one of the
largest half marathons in the country. Mark ran a huge personal best of 1:14:23 to finish in eighth place - a massive achievement given the race boasted 3000 finishers. His time gives him a
ranking in the top 50 over half marathon
distance
in the south-east of the country.
Rachael also
ran a three minute personal best, clocking a time
of 1:23:00 to finish as seventh
woman in a very strong women's race which attracted both Kenyan and Commonwealth
athletes alike.
Team Kennet will be taking part in the Veterans League. This is open to members aged 35 years and over..
